About Government Relations

INA monitors all health-related and nursing legislation and works with legislators to introduce legislation to promote and protect quality patient care and the nursing profession.

The major areas of INA's Government Relations program include the INA Assembly on Health Policy, the Government Relations Committee, INA's political action arm, INA-PAC, and Government Relations staff.

The Illinois Nurses Association Assembly on Health Policy is composed of member volunteers working together to help develop and implement INA's policies and positions.

The Government Relations Committee, also composed of member volunteers, reviews legislation, makes recommendations regarding legislation and works to educate RNs and students through political action events in Springfield.

INA's legislative platform was adopted by INA's highest voting body, the House of Delegates. Based on INA policies and positions, it provides the principles by which INA measures all proposed legislation and regulations concerning nursing practice, quality care and other health issues.

Political Action Days
Every year, INA hosts political action days for RNs and students. The days are designed to provide nurses and students with information about the legislative process and the importance of political action (ie letting legislators know how nurses stand on issues affecting healthcare and nursing. Political Action Days have grown so successful that we now host two days--one for students and one for RNs.
